Additional Partnerships

The Office Depot Foundation partners with a number of other nonprofit organizations and causes that enhance quality of life for communities and individuals. These include:

No community is immune to drugs and their related problems. The economic burden of substance abuse to the U.S. economy is estimated at a staggering $414 billion annually. Drug, alcohol and tobacco use currently cost schools throughout the country an extra $41 billion per year in truancy, violence, disciplinary programs, school security and other expenses. Since 1992, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) has led the fight against substance abuse by fostering the establishment and growth of community coalitions. Today, CADCA's over 5,000 community coalitions are reducing youth drug use and making their communities safe, healthy and drug-free. Coalitions deal with a diverse set of strategies to change community norms, reaching people where they live, work and go to school. CADCA's Drug-Free Kids Campaign is an effort to shine a spotlight on the serious problem of substance abuse and addiction and show how community-based strategies are working to combat these concerns. Each year, more than half a million children are thrust into the foster care system. Unable to live safely at home due to some form of parental abuse or neglect, they are at risk of languishing in inappropriate group or foster homes, their futures dependent on the overburdened legal and child protection system.

That is where the CASA or guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteer comes in. Appointed by the court, CASA and GAL volunteers work diligently to first determine what is in the best interest of the child and then ensure that positive outcomes are achieved. The volunteer stays with each case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home-either through being reunited with their parents, placed in the custody of a caring relative or freed to be adopted.

CASA volunteers provide information to the courts that can literally change the lives of more than 220,000 children each year. To learn more, visit www.nationalcasa.org.

Jason Taylor Foundation

The Jason Taylor Foundation has made long strides in a short period of time, impacting thousands of children through innovative programming including the Jason Taylor Reading Room, Big Screens-Big Dreams, Cool Gear for the School Year, the Jason Taylor Children’s Learning Center and Jason Taylor Scholars, among others.  To learn more about the Jason Taylor Foundation, please visit www.JasonTaylorFoundation.org.
