Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program: Serving 3 Million Kids Since 2001
For 13 years, the Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program has helped children boost their self-esteem and build their self-confidence by giving them essential tools to succeed in school. This year, the Foundation will donate 300,000 kid-friendly sackpacks to deserving kids across the United States and globally. By the end of 2013, Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have helped more than 3 million children since the inception of this award-winning program in 2001.
We would like to suggest several story ideas related to this milestone:
We invite you to review the materials in this Internet Press Kit and use them with our compliments. We can help to arrange interviews with students, parents, schools and nonprofit organizations that have received donations in the past; as well as with Mary Wong, president of the Office Depot Foundation.
- The tremendously important role that new school supplies can play in enhancing a child's ability to succeed during the school year.
- The difference that a new sackpack and school supplies can make in the way children feel about themselves and their experience in school.
- The commitment that the Office Depot Foundation has made to supporting this program for 13 years despite a challenging economy.
- The sheer magnitude of 300,000 sackpacks. For example, if you put them all together they would weigh as much as 10 African elephants!
