Frequently Asked Questions for On-Line Grant Application

 

Q. Do I have to complete the application in one on-line session?
A. No, you can start the application and save it to finish it at another time. Use the "Save and Finish Later" button located at the bottom of each application page. You will be prompted to provide an e-mail address and create a password for future access to your application while you are working on it.

 

Q. How do I return to an incomplete application that I saved, but have not yet submitted?
A. You will receive an e-mail notification confirming that your application was saved along with the e-mail address and the password required to access your saved application. This e-mail will include a link to the log-in page. By clicking on this link, you will be able to enter your e-mail address and password in order to return to your application.

 

Q. How do I know if my grant application has been received?
A. After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

 

Q. My 501(c)(3) status is pending. Do I qualify to receive a donation?
A. No. The Office Depot Foundation does not fund organizations with a pending status.

 

Q. Will the Foundation consider a grant request from a newly created organization?
A. The Foundation will consider funding organizations after their first year with 501(c)(3) status, if the grant request aligns with the mission and focus of the giving guidelines.

 

Q. If my organization, school or company is a customer of Office Depot, will that make a difference in reviewing our application?
A. The Office Depot Foundation is an independent foundation. Office Depot customers do not receive preferential treatment.

 

Q. Will the Foundation consider a grant request for a collaborative project between two or more organizations?
A. Yes. The Office Depot Foundation strongly encourages proposals that include collaboration between different organizations, schools, libraries and other similar entities. Please make sure that this is clearly explained in your proposal.

 

Q. Will the Foundation fund a multi-year program?
A. Generally, the Foundation funds programs for one year.

 

Q. What is the average grant award for a local program?
A. The foundation generally makes local grant awards ranging from $250-$10,000. For programs that are national in scope, we will consider larger awards.

 

Q. Can I apply for an in-kind donation from the Foundation through the on-line grant application?
A. No, to participate in our in-kind donation program, visit the website of our philanthropic partner Gifts In Kind International: www.giftsinkind.org

 

Q. May I submit a request for backpacks using the on-line application process?
A. No. The Office Depot Foundation is not accepting requests for backpacks from individual organizations or schools this year.

 

Q. Can I mail my application to the Foundation for processing?
A. No, the Foundation can only accept an application through the on-line process.

 

Q. Can I contact the Foundation to get a status of my application?
A. The Foundation will review all applications submitted. We will either make an immediate declination if your grant request does not meet our funding criteria, or notify you during the Third or Fourth Quarters of 2009 if your grant request will be funded.
